After having recently upgraded my iMac to High Sierra (10.13.1) my old Canon MP Navigator EX software stopped working.
I've tried to install recently released LiDE scanner driver 210 Ver. 17.1.1b (Mac) but after going without problems through the installation process and getting the final message 'installation successful' I'm unable to start this software. There is no new driver icon in Launchpad nor in Applications folder.
I've also tried to install the other driver for this scanner i.e. ICA driver ver. 4.1.4a (Mac) with the same problems as above.
They only way to use my scanner is now through Printers&Scanners access in System Preferences or through Image Capture.
Please help me to solve this issue 🙂

It took me a while to get my canon scanner working under Lion. The trick is that there are two programs that you need to install – the scanner program and the driver. This works for Leopard and Snow Leopard too.You need to install the canon toolbox which is the general canon scanning program called “CanoScan Toolbox Ver. 4.9.3.4X (Mac OS X)” but you also need to install the ‘driver’ for your particular printer (for my printer it was called “LiDE 60 Scanner Driver Ver. 11.1.3.0X (Mac OS X)”. There’s no where I could see on the canon page that tells you you need to download BOTH these files.
I found both these by going to the canon page here, and typing in ‘LIDE 60’ Then I got a list of options, and I chose the link under my printer ‘CanoScan LiDE 60’ which took me here. I clicked drivers and downloads which took me here. Both the files were there in the list. Install the toolbox first, then the driver, then you’ll need to restart.

It then gave me an error as follows:
“The system extension “/System/Library/Extensions/CNQL1212_ClassicNotSeize.kext” was installed improperly and cannot be used.”
This is apparently an old file Canon forgot to remove. Remove it manually from, here:
/System/Library/Extensions/CNQL1212_ClassicNotSeize.kext
All working!

I had downloaded the driver before the toolbox and could not for the life of me get it to work. Followed your tip and easy-peasy worked like a charm! Thanks so much!!!
ReplyKarensays:April 17, 2012 at 1:28 pm Spot on to the person who said plug the scanner directly into the pc – not via the hub. Worked straight away after a lot of previous frustration.
The clue sinked in when I noticed the scanner was trying to start up when asked to scan but not following through. Thanks

Thank you-thank you-thank you. Followed your instructions to the letter. Scanner works again like a dream.
I now wish I could find a work round to keep my Laserwriter 4/600ps working under Lion. Once again thank you.

Just wanted to say that I downloaded both files described above (installed them backwards…driver first then toolbox), then opened the toolbox, clicked save, then scan and had no problems at all. I did not remove any files (as described above).
I am running OS X version 10.7.3
thanks for the help, folks

Running Mac OS 10.7. 3. Downloaded both files, scanner plugged directly into iMac, deleted extension file and still no luck,. When trying to scan using Toolbox 5.0, received message “Failed to open driver.”
ReplyLeahsays:May 22, 2012 at 9:04 am THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! All installed on Lion! Funny thing though, I downloaded both the driver and toolbox, and I didn’t need to install toolbox… the scanner works on just the driver. Hmm!
You did a lot of people a service by posting. Thank you!!

Thanks! I got it working also on Mountain Lion (10.8.1) using this tip.
Downloaded Toolbox from here:
http://www.canon.de/Support/Consumer_Products/products/scanners/LiDE_series/CanoScan_LiDE_60.aspx?DLtcmuri=tcm:83-741070&page=1&type=download
and the driver from here:
http://canoncanada.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4158/~/lide-60-scanner-driver-ver.-11.1.3.0x-(mac-os-x)
Installed first toolbox, then driver. Restarted. Works like a charm.
ReplyJonsays:October 22, 2012 at 11:46 pm Just downloaded the driver and installed. Never downloaded the toolbox.
Removed the file, as in the post above, and then added scanner in settings. Just tested, and it worked with Mountain Lions own scanner function.

ReplyPhilsays:November 28, 2012 at 2:52 am In Mountain Lion. I followed the original instructions. Deleted the file mentioned (/System/Library/Extensions/CNQL1212_ClassicNotSeize.kext) though it was causing no problem. Added my scanner in the system prefs “Printers & Scanners” and it seems to work perfectly! Works in my Adobe Pro and the Canoscan toolbox.
Thanks!

ReplyCarlsays:April 26, 2013 at 2:37 am Was looking for this fix everywhere as one of our customers was experiencing the same issues, downloaded toolbox and driver, amended log files and restarted. Works great now! Thanks for the advice.

It works in Mountain Lion as before. I followed instructions you said (had no CNQL file) but removed all bits from a previous attempt to install so there was no Canon scanner files on the computer. Downloaded the files. Installed the Toolbox first. Then the Driver. Restarted. Plugged the scanner in, and voila it scanned first time. Set it up to open in iPhoto as I had it before Mountain Lion. Its perfect. Thank you.
ReplyFM de Graafsays:September 5, 2013 at 4:14 am I also was looking for a working driver for ML 10.8
i bought a new canon scanner Lide 110 it’s working perfect.
I tried my old scanner( Canon Lide 60) or it should work with this installed canon driver
i’am surprised my old scanner, lide 60 is working min Ml 10.8.4
photoloader does not recognise it. But Vuescan does. i use Vuescan 9.2.21

so the Lide 110 software works on 10.8 en higher for the Lide 60
